Anja Down Under.

We've all seen her, on the cover of Vogue, in numerous campaigns and on the runway - Anja Rubik is definitely something special and I love her overall look and character. This mini interview with Anja is from Vogue during her recent trip to Australia.

On her first trip down under, Polish-born, New-York-based model Anja Rubik shares her inimitable style.

PhotobucketShe’s the kind of girl you’d like to think doesn’t exist. All long limbs, winning smile and flawless golden skin. But, alas, standing in the middle of the Australian outback, happily being snapped without the aid of a hair, make-up and styling team, Anja Rubik is every bit as stunning in real life as she is on the runway. It’s no wonder the 26-year-old is at the top of her game, earning her position as one of the world’s leading models, with multiple Vogue covers and a portfolio boasting campaigns for Lanvin, Balmain, GapGiuseppe Zanotti and, for the third season running, Fendi, shot by Karl Lagerfeld.

Rubik, who aside from modelling regularly collaborates on jewellery and accessories ranges back in her native Poland, also happened to be born with an instinctive eye for fashion. “I don’t put any rules to my style; I think fashion is something that you should play with … evening you make a mistake it’s okay, it’s only fashion,” she says. For summer her look leans towards hippie luxe, with long skirts, waisted belts, scarfs and cotton T-shirts, while in the winter she builds a rock ‘n’ roll wardrobe around her favourite Les Chiffoniers leather pants. Refreshingly she works a high-low mix of labels, teaming Isabel Marant and Dries Van Noten with gems from H&M.

Rubik started modelling at 16, but it was only when photographers Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin booked her for a Chloe campaign in 2005 that things really took off. Her fate was sealed soon after when Steven Meisel snapped her for Dolce & Gabbana, a shoot on which she met her fiancé, model Sasha Knezevic. Besides being photographed together, the couple are currently working side-by-side revamping Austrian magazine 25, a project Rubik is more than qualified to undertake after 10 years spent observing the inner workings of the fashion industry. So does this signal a change in career for Rubik? “I try not to make [long-term] plans. Right now I’m basically at the stage where I’m trying out a lot of different things and then I will see what I feel the most comfortable with.”

For now, she’ll continue exercising her formidable eye for a future classic. Take the battered drover’s hat she managed to charm off a local’s head on a recent trip to South Australia’s salt flats with Vogue Australia. “I’ve been wearing it almost every day and I think in New York everyone is going to be jealous, because you know in New York everyone wants a cool item that no-one has – you’ll be seeing me in that hat a lot.”

LMFF.

So after all the world's fashion shows, finally we ended up in Melbourne, Australia for the L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival, which took place last week. I stumbled across these amazing photographs by Oh Jamiee. His photography is so clean and crisp, and I love the perspective. Check out his blog here!

Rouge Allure.

My recent obsession is lipstick. I just love it and I can't get enough colours. I never used to wear it because I thought it made me look too mature. But now, I suppose, I feel more mature so I don't mind the look. I love the classic red and a musky pink, and now I am loving purple hues too. Perfect for upcoming winter.

Last Minute Shopping.

Just before coming back to Australia I did have a few days free to spend in Osaka. I had originally planned a giant shopping trip in Tokyo and unfortunately Osaka doesn't have a Topshop or a Forever 21. And their H&M just isn't as good. But Osaka does have some amazing boutique shops and still I managed to find a find a few things I liked.

1. Chanel Rouge Allure | MAC Russian Red | Miss Dior Chérie | Mimco Marais Timepiece | YSL Babydoll .
2. Uniqlo Lace-up Boots
3. Amazing tread on these boots.
4. Top handle bag and heeled brogues from Japan | Dotti leopard belt .

Hearts On Fire.

I am beginning to have withdrawals as I have not posted on my blog in about a week. There has been so much going on lately as, I arrived back in Australia very early this morning after leaving a devastated Japan sooner than expected. The past week has involved packing up a life and moving back to resume an old one. So many mixed emotions and so many things left undone. But I just pray that the people we left behind in Japan will be safe, happy and healthy.

Inspirational Spaces.

I am seriously obsessed with interior decorating and I am thinking about pursuing the idea as a career. Along with all the other dream jobs that I have. But I think that interior decorating could be a dream that I could turn into a reality. That, and eventually teaching English in Japan, being a stylist, an air hostess and travel consultant. I also dream about what I want my house to look like and I scroll through endless home inspiration blogs, saving designs that I like. I am very particular and I think I would decorate to a minimalist theme. I love white on white, but not too white. I love a bit of colour and I love for a space to feel comfortable and 'homely', not too sterile where you think you can't sit back into the sofa because you'll crease the cushions.

These are some bedroom designs that I find inspiring. I love my bedroom but unfortunately its not big enough and I have too much 'stuff'. I like to hide excess 'stuff' in large boxes and make the first impression seem clean and tidy.

Japan's Devastating Earthquake.

As I sit here feeling the tremors of the aftermath from the earthquake that struck Japan this afternoon, replying to all the messages from loved ones telling them I am safe, I can't help but think about those effected by the devastating tsunami that has swept the nation. Judging only by what I've seen on the news and television, I am so incredibly shocked that this is the largest earthquake to ever strike Japan. I am so lucky to be living on the other side of Japan, where neither the tsunami nor the earthquake has any great effect.

My heart goes out to those effected and their families.
