A Zimmermann Guide to L.A.

The Chateau Marmont, vintage shopping in West Hollywood and restaurants in Malibu. Nicky Zimmermann spills her LA secrets. 

Still basking in the success of her recent spring/summer Rosemount Australian Fashion Week show, Nicky Zimmermann headed to Los Angeles to open Zimmermann’s first permanent US retail store. With camera in hand and a trained eye for all things stylish and charmingly offbeat, the designer played hooky from press appointments to share her favourite things to do in La-La Land.

“I like to go for a walk in the morning up Runyon Canyon. The view of LA from the top is beautiful. And when you need a drink at the bottom, there is an honour system drinks station which is a nice touch in a crazy city.”

“At our new store, I love the vintage doors that we sourced ourselves. We also have a great sculpture by Australian artist Huseyin Sami hanging from the sun-filled oval skylight.”

“Shopping in Beverley Hills. I can't not go to Barney's.”

“The red velvet cake for desert at The Ivy. It's a well-known spot but it’s still a great place for lunch. Just across the road from our store on Robertson Boulevard.”

“Vintage shopping at Golyester. This is one of my favourite vintage stores on La Brea Avenue.”

“The bougainvillea is blooming all around Los Angeles - beautiful!”

“When I'm in LA for work I like to stay at the Chateau Marmont in West Hollywood. It has that old-world feeling and the peaceful garden is a great escape from all the craziness. The personalised stationery is just funny.”

“It's nice to get out of LA at this time of year and head to Malibu. There's a great Greek restaurant there called Taverna Tony.”
