A Bit of Change..

After about five years of living in this house, I have decided to make a change to my room. I had odd pieces of furniture holding all my precious things, all cramped together. I decided it was time for a change and all my lovely little ornaments deserved a decent space to be admired! I went off to Ikea and came back with an almost broken toe (due to the trolley breaking and the two heavy boxes falling out onto my feet), two blocks of chocolate and a white bookshelf with different sized sections. I love the shelf with symmetrical square sections but I thought this type was a little more interesting and more suited to my room.

So here is the before photo:

After high school, three years of uni and a year of travelling, I accumulated a lot of 'stuff'. Many unwanted gifts, old photos, a TV and DVD player that I barely used, unopened mail, necklaces, hair accessories and so much more! So I sorted things out, donated what I didn't want to charity stores and got into a bit of organisation.

Amazingly, everything from the two items was able to fit into the new bookcase (with some serious arranging and rearranging, of course!). I have tried to group similar items together, like my textbooks in one section, novels in another. All my DVDs and CDs have their own space and you can see things much more clearly.

Here are some of my favourite sections!

I love this ceramic origami crane.. along with my travel books.

Two of my favourite items from my travels; the little British postbox teapot from London and my Gaudi bull from Barcelona. And in the background of the bull is a traditionally painted, handmade, Turkish candle holder. I just love all the beautiful colours!

And these are my birds. I love the owl, he's made from styrofoam and feathers. He looks freakishly real. Also, I decided to frame some of the photos from this post. Along with a change of pillow cases and throw-over blanket on my bed, I'm quite happy with the overall look of things. The white and somewhat whimsical colours are like a breath of fresh air.

I hope you like it!
